Naturland quality from around the world
There are now about 116,000 farmers in 60 different countries who produce food in accordance with our internationally recognised Naturland standards. Outside of Germany, they are mostly incorporated in smallholder cooperatives or producer associations. Around 615,000 hectares of land worldwide are farmed by them. In addition to tea and coffee, we certify bananas, pineapples, cocoa, sugar cane, spices, olives, prawns, salmon and others. Our quality benchmark is much higher than the EU’s, which has enabled us to gain the trust of consumers.
We promote organic production and social recognition of organic agriculture worldwide. Our work enables us to contribute towards protecting the environment and its resources, ensuring food security and improving people's living conditions. To ensure that a Naturland certification is attainable even for low-acreage farmers, we also work with producer associations that incorporate numerous individual producers. In this case, a producer association or ‘cooperative’ counts as one Naturland member. This is why in Peru, for example, we have 21 members comprising 15 cooperatives and 6 larger individual farms. In total, they incorporate 3,557 producers in Peru.
