Naturland Association for Organic Agriculture

MoroccoWith a share of 14 per cent of the GDP the agrarian sector is one of the most important economic sectors in Morocco. About 40 per cent of the Moroccan people make their living in this sector. While agriculture in Morocco is facing great challenges in sustainability such as water scarcity, organic farming amounts to less than 1 per cent of the total sector.

Naturland is providing support and advisory services to the Moroccan organic  sector and its association FIMABIO in their organizational development in order to enhance the organic sector in the North African country and to create new jobs. The project is part of a special initiative for training and employment supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

A central element of the project will be trainings provided by Naturland for future trainers in the application of organic farming standards and sustainable irrigation techniques as well as measures for adaptation to climate change. In addition to this, Naturland will organize workshops with companies in Morocco to discuss certification systems as well as to develop marketing strategies for national and international markets. As the project further aims at raising awareness for and providing information on organic agriculture and food for Moroccan consumers, it also includes public relations training.
