Welcome to Naturland

Naturland farmers and processors have been ground-breaking global pioneers for over 30 years. The world’s first ever conversion to organic agriculture of tea gardens in Sri Lanka and India in the 1980s was the prelude to our successful work on an international scale. Currently 65,000 farmers in 58 countries manage an area of some 440,000 hectares according to the Naturland standards. To Naturland, organic agriculture means combining tradition with modern practices and experience with the courage to adopt new approaches.

Oikocredit and Naturland issued an invitation to a joint reception to be held on the evening of 10th February, 2016, in the Literaturhaus in Nuremberg, Germany. They were taking the opportunity afforded by the BioFach trade fair which attracts many partners of Naturland and Oikocredit to Nuremberg from all parts of the world.

The event was the most recent in a series, because Naturland had already arranged such joint meetings in prior years during the BioFach. However, the purpose of this year’s joint event with Oikocredit was to allow an exchange of information between the partner organisations of both these organisations and to consolidate existing relationships.

Representative of Philippine sugar cane organisation Alter Trade Corporation visits Naturland headquarters

On 22nd February, Elizabeth C. Mondejar, marketing and sales manager of Alter Trade Corporation (ATC) in the Philippines, visited the head office of the Naturland Association in Gräfelfing, Germany. Ms Mondejar was warmly welcomed by Steffen Reese, the general manager of Naturland, and Friedrun Sachs, International Dept. Alter Trade Corporation and Naturland are looking back on more than 20 years of successful cooperation.

The first contact was initiated in early 1990s through GEPA, the fair trade company. Naturland accompanied ATC in the conversion to organic agriculture, and after the successful Naturland certification in 1997, GEPA launched the first organic Mascobado sugar on the German market.

Olivenoelaward BF 2016 mitUrkundeundOel Bild1At this year’s BIOFACH, numerous awards were again presented to long-standing members and partners of Naturland. After repeated previous successes, Biocyclic Network, a Greek partner of Naturland, again walked off with an award. At the ceremony “BioFach 2016 Olive Oil Award” in Nuremberg, it was this time the biocyclic extra virgin olive oil produced by Samira and Johannes Eisenbach from Kalamata/Messinia which was ranked in the TOP 10. It now made it the third time in a row that an olive oil produced to the Naturland standards by our Greek partner, Biocyclic Network, has taken an award at the BIOFACH.
All the oils were assessed with respect to aroma, taste and general condition. In this case the olive oil produced by Biocyclic Network , a Pan-Hellenic organic farming network, got top marks and was awarded a well-deserved second place.

broschuere qualitaet Bild1Naturland is growing, in Germany and abroad. Currently worldwide some 320,000 hectares are managed according to Naturland standards. That is 6.7 percent more than a year earlier. Thus Naturland could extend its lead as one of the most important organic associations worldwide. The greatest strides in this positive development in 2015 were made in Europe. There are already indications of even more significant growth in 2016 in South America and Asia too, in the number of farms and in the area cultivated.

"The fact that over 3,000 farms in Germany see their future in the Naturland community is a powerful and important signal at the close of the BIOFACH”, said Steffen Reese, the general manager of Naturland, on Saturday at the trade fair in Nuremberg.
