Welcome to Naturland

Naturland farmers and processors have been ground-breaking global pioneers for over 30 years. The world’s first ever conversion to organic agriculture of tea gardens in Sri Lanka and India in the 1980s was the prelude to our successful work on an international scale. Currently 65,000 farmers in 58 countries manage an area of some 440,000 hectares according to the Naturland standards. To Naturland, organic agriculture means combining tradition with modern practices and experience with the courage to adopt new approaches.

As part of a project aiming at creating jobs in the organic agriculture and food industry in Egypt, the Fayoum Agro Organic Development Association (FAODA) in Egypt, the international department of the Training and Development Centres of the Bavarian Employers' Associations (bfz GmbH) and Naturland cooperated in short-term venture.

The aim of the short project was the training of multipliers of FAODA by the bfz and Naturland experts. In a two-days workshop in Egypt, Egyptian farmers, processors and exporters were trained in the principles of organic farming, composting, permitted inputs in organic farming, internal control systems for small farmers' organisations and the importance and requirements for fair trade certification.

An increase of 25% in Naturland farmers and area world-wide
Naturland auf der Biofach 2018Naturland is publishing excellent figures in time for the BioFach trade fair in 2018: the continued good growth of prior years again gathered further momentum in 2017, both in Germany and globally. Currently there are 54,000 farmers in 52 countries the world over operating in compliance with the Naturland standards. This is 26.4% more than a year ago.

The agricultural area farmed has also increased by 23.8% to almost 343,000 hectares. Add to this the 54,000 hectares of organic forestry and the area increases to almost 400,000 hectares of land managed to the Naturland standards. These figures justify Naturland’s claim to a role as a one of the leading global organic associations.

IFOAM Organics International, Naturland and FiBL are working to build up organic competence in selected Green Innovation Centres

Bauer im Gemüsefeld 250Improved access to knowledge and innovations in organic agriculture holds great potential for improving food security and raising the productivity of smallholders’ farms in Africa and India economically, ecologically and socially, in a sustainable manner.
